Magnetic flow meters (“mag” meters) are used to accurately measure the volume of effluent (manure slurry, food slurry, etc) being transferred to the digester. Since the effluent typically contains a mix of water, organic materials, and sometimes solids, the non-invasive nature of mag meters (no moving parts) is beneficial as it avoids clogging and wear.
The flow data provided by the mag meters can be used in real-time to ensure that the effluent is being supplied to the digester at the correct rate, optimizing the digestion process. A totalizer function of the mag meter is helpful to record how much total material has been fed into a batch or continuous feed digester over a period of time.
